Well what a weekend is all I can say! With crews from around the state arriving in dribs and drabs on the Friday night, the 2009 Snug Regatta official got underway on the Saturday morning with an opening parade and Sail Past. After an entertaining afternoon competing in the odd event such as sailing or the good old sack race, it was time to head to the Snug Pub! While I am sure there are many Rovers from around the state who may be struggling to remember this evening, it is okay as the ever faithful facebook has all sins and antics captured and displayed for everyone to remember. After a memorable evening it was time to get up bright and early Sunday morning for the Long Distance Rowing, congratulations to the 6 teams which entered and to ESRC for winning. Sunday was the day for big events with over the day Rovers competing in the Iron Person, greasy pole, sailing and Tug-of-War to name a few. MFRC took out this years Tug-of-War and congrats to all Rovers as we proved our prowess in this event beating the venturers 2-1. Sunday night followed with the Annual General Meeting for TBRC being held, congratulations to all the newly elected executives. Monday saw the final day of competition with the first event for the day being the 500m short distance rowing. Following the rowing the trial of the newly invented event of Canoe Jousting was held with photos to come shortly i'm sure this is an event to be added to the programme next year. Later that afternoon saw the closing parade and the end of another fantastic regatta; I look forward to seeing you all there again next year.
2008 -Raft Race
Held at the infamous Derby River Derby this year, the rovers took it to the rest of the world in the 4 man rafts, with the Eastern Shore Rover Crew flying in second, and also bringing up the rear for the bottom end trophy was a mixed raft with NARC and Welly. We also helped paddle a SUPER MULTI raft with Julie letting the side down on the Great White Shark and falling miserabley in a 10 year low of second place!
On the 27th September, Timaru Ball was held in Timaru, New Zealand. Timaru is about a 2 hour bus trip south of Christchurch, but the Rovers in Christchurch had organized an awesome pub crawl to get there which turned into a 6 hour adventure! When we arrived we scared the locals, settled into our hotels and got ready for the big night ahead.The theme for the night was Uniforms and there were some classic costumes to be seen – cops, robbers, nurses, school girls, massage ladies and flight attendants. The night involved lots of dancing, drinking and socializing and was full of fun.Tanysha and myself had an absolute blast. The NZ Rovers know how to put on a good party and make anyone feel welcome!
Southern Gourmet Tour (Als bday Junket)
14 Rovers, a mini bus and gourmet foods and wines! What a weekend. With Rovers from SA, Vic and ACT on board it was a fantastic weekend with highlights being Salamanca Market, Cascade Brewery, Coal Valley Wineries and an awesome bbq and drinks night on the Saturday night. Everyone had a great time and spent too much money - but you get that! We will definitely have another one in the future!
River Rescue Course
On the 20th and 21st of September 6 Rovers attended the TAFE Tasmania River Rescue course. The course was held on the Arm River in the states North West. The weekend consisted of theory, practical demonstrations and scenarios covering assisted and unassisted rescue and recovery methods.
